E3 can really drain you. You’d think it would be easy to walk around all day and try out new games, but it is somehow extremely exhausting. Pair that with a visit to Wednesday Night Fights last night, and you can imagine how quickly we all passed out when we made it back to our hotel room.
So, what did see yesterday? Skullgirls, baby. We interviewed Ian from Reverge Labs about the game, and spent a good 45 minutes playing matches with all three characters. What else can I say other than that the game feels great. I’m not in love with some of the things happening visually in the game, but playing as Peacock just left me wanting more of these extremely interesting characters. If you were not anticipating the release of Skullgirls before, you may want to take notice. It is coming along very, very nicely.
I also got to spend a lot more time with Street Fighter X Tekken. Playing with the likes of Mike Ross, Combofiend, Maximillian, and many other well-knowns in the community was really fun. Everyone was all smiles, laughing and trash talking it up.
I managed to get an appointment with Capcom, which got me into their press area to interview Seth Killian about the game. While there, I talked to Justin Wong on camera about it, and got some matches in with him. I even got to speak to Markman a bit about Mad Catz’s new prototype stick. We’ll have more on all of those topics later.
A quick visit to the Atlus booth left us disappointed, as King of Fighters XIII was represented only by a poster on the wall. It wasn’t a total loss though, as they were giving away free fun-size candy.
At Namco’s booth, they had a solitary Tekken Tag Tournament 2 arcade machine tucked away in a corner. Rip was going in on the game, and he talked to me for a bit about it. He said it feels exactly like Tekken 6 with a tag feature. If you don’t like Tekken 6, he said, then you probably wont jive with TTT2 either.
We’ll be heading to the convention center shortly for our final day of exploration and coverage. I have hours of match footage and interviews to upload, but I’ll need better internet to do it. Look forward to our continuing coverage of E3, and follow @KeitsSRK and @skisonic for updates from the showfloor (including pictures of ski with many booth babes).
