Arcade Edition May Not be the Last of the Street Fighter IV Series

Seth Killian hinted in his interview with Nowgamer that Arcade Edition might not be the final chapter in the Street Fighter IV Series. Despite being frustrated with the number of updates in just two years myself, I think it’ll be welcome by many who aren’t happy with the overall balance of Arcade Edition compared to Super.

Note to Capcom: If there isn’t a new version coming, please at least release an A.E. patch that nerfs Yun!

“Well, things change at Capcom all the time frankly. It’s a matter of internal focus and planning. Saying what’s next for us in fighting games, where do we want to have our energy, our key staff working on games and things like that.

The thinking was, we’re going to set down Street Fighter IV and let it ride with Arcade Edition. But of course, things change all the time at Capcom, so if Arcade Edition does very well, I’m sure there will be some guy in a suit somewhere saying “you need to do this again!” and we’ll be back here talking again. But that’s a-okay with me.”

• Jourdal

Inb4yunhate

whoops, too late kineda beat everyone too it.

• GirugaMarc

A true successor of ST, lmao.

Making dat monaaaaaaay.

• Satorr

like nobody saw this coming

• Blaziner

well the fact that they said this was the last ver of ssf4 may of threw a few people off, and the fact that the game isnt being played to much anymore, which would mean that everyone who wanted to try it, tried it and wouldnt wanna continue trying it.

• toddler316

@Blaziner what the fuck are you talking about?
AE is being played as highly or even more so then super was,MK and MvC3 are what are losing players right this moment.

I digress, this announcement comes to the surprise of absolutely no one if you follow capcom’s general way of doing business.

I mean didn’t they say DMC 3 was the last one a few years back?
Or that they would never ever ever port the ace attorney series to the us?
C’Mon son they troll more then 4chan kids.

• neon6

“they said this was the last ver of ssf4 may of threw a few people off”
They said the exact same thing regarding the original SF4 and Super, yet people are too stupid to remember.

• DanDan

*Bashes head on keyboard repeatedly*

• Xenogenesis

Calling it now. Yun will be buffed.

• piskooooo

Subpar Fighter 4

• Doc Strange

Yun’s health will be nerfed to a retarded degree, but his high damage output, great assist and ridiculous damage in X-Factor will keep it from mattering at all.

• Nitro263

I have to admit, I lol’d at this.

• juggernaut1981

Awesomeness

• Deddjay

You just won this thread sir.

• Gorehound

Let SF4 die now!!

They should start working on sequels to more classic fighters like Darkstalkers.

• Killer_Jigglypuff

Could we please get Darkstalkers 4 before another SF4 rendition? It’s two days old for god’s sake.

• Krackatoa

I’m all for more patches, honestly. <_<

• sksksksksk222

Another game in the SF4 series? 3 is enough.

• lunarhostility

Just let go for the good of all.

• Camtronocon

I’d be fine with AE being the final game in the 4 series if Oni and Evil Ryu weren’t the last characters added. Out of all the characters that people wanted, these two you choose? Really? Not that I dislike them, just an odd choice if you ask me considering all the calls for more Alpha and 3s characters. So if another installment means more characters and some bal*yun*ce, then I’m all for it!

• Goatbot

Yeh SF4 is really missing Alex. Ono said we can expect some characters who didnt make it into SF4 to get into SFxT though. Id quite like Alex in that with all his grabs and things.

I honestly hope they decide to move on with SF though and not do much more to the SF4 series other than give us the Yun and Yang restaurant costumes that theyre sitting on and maybe a slight balance patch for Yun like NRS have been doing with MK9 rather than an overhaul.

• neon6

They were added to appeal to MUGEN fans.

• Dander

I like Yun

• ExHaseo

Super Street Fighter IV Turbo get hype.

Didn’t they already announce that they weren’t going to make any more SFIV games or updates though? Already change their minds?

• cjguigni

“The thinking was, we’re going to set down Street Fighter IV and let it ride with Arcade Edition. But of course, things change all the time at Capcom, so if Arcade Edition does very well, I’m sure there will be some guy in a suit somewhere saying “you need to do this again!” and we’ll be back here talking again.”

• TRUEB7UE

I’d be okay with some extra balancings and maybe some new characters, but these are the same things that everyone wants…

truth be told I’m really too hyped for SFxTK to really want another SFIV.

• BLaZiaN

Add Sean Matsuda and Ken’s son Mel. Maybe Mel in SF5, but Sean definitely in a future DLC. Story continue ftw.

+100

• Dan CiTi

Ahahaha you’re such a fruitbag.

• BLaZiaN

Lol uhhhhhhh I’m serious. Why add tons of characters that aren’t really related to each other? It helps the SF universe. Capcom could start introducing newer characters with an old feel. Ken’s son would be great, pals with Sean Matsuda who Ken trains. Imagine Ryu’s son or daughter in SF. Much better than a “God Ryu”, “Evil Rufus”, and other spin-offs. SF would then be going in the MK direction if it continues to put those types for every character.

• Goatbot

Thats kind of the way 3rd Strike started to take things. I did like the new generation coming in. That said though theres still a lot more between. For example, I always imagined Rock in Soul Calibur to grow old and become more noble and wisened in his age losing the rage which made him so barbaric. So before we start seeing too many kids rushing through Id certainly like to see a lot more Gen style story lines with the old man and then Chun Li and the twins coming through but seeing characters grow older.

I mean also why not have a prequel Street Fighter before even Ryu came about and when Gen and Gouken etc were younger? Could be pretty cool. Id just really like to see these characters come more to life. Its all very Simpsons right now, like Bart staying 10 years old for 20 years. Some point they need to move on. They could always come back in prequels as well like they did in SF4 set before 3rd Strike.

• ANewChallenger

- Sean, age 27, now as capable as Ken
- Mel, age 19, somewhat like Sakura
- Alex, a bit older
- Poison
- Elena
- Ibuki
- Yun
- Yang, now with different moves after having trained with Fei Long
- A fusion of Q and 12 called Q 1.2
- Chun’s protogee, a 15 year old girl wearing jeans, chun’s alpha top and the spiked bracelets, with loop buns in her hair.
- GENERAL GUILE
- Sagat’s protogee, a tall, slender, cut Blasian guy with a really violent attitude
- Urien
- The Red Hurricane, Gief’s protogee
- A cocky Latino who grew up in metro city and later trained under Rufus
- Viper’s daughter, a full on cyborg.
- [Boss] Old Man Ryu, who fights using mixed ansatsu and Oro jazz, then gets posessed by Gouki’s spirit in round 2 changing his fighting style dramatically, and whooping your ass.

Could be fun.

• bdarka

Except for Sagat’s apprentice is Adon, which after that failure caused Sagat to never accept a pupil again. Your Old Man Ryu is kinda pulling from Ryu Final, but Alex was searching out Ryu instead

• Karsha

If they add new SF characters to SFxTekken then im sure those same characters will be as “new characters” in the upcoming version of SF 4 lol

• Mr.BottledChi

better be free. or character dlc better not be super street fighter 4 AE turbo or im stiking with 3SO…who am i kdding id so buy SSF4AET if it came out… im a sheep :X

• Paper_Tank

People always forget that Capcom has done this since SFII and I always laugh at that. If you look at all of their series, Alpha, V.S, SFII, SF3, VS, hell even the lesser known fighters like Power Stone. All of those updates always came, more often than not, within a year of one another. The first Arcade version of Vanilla came out all the way back in 08, and if they come out with another one more likely than not it’ll be in Spring of 12. That’s four editions in four years. That’s nothing crazy.

The only reason people don’t remember this is because for 10 years, Capcom didn’t produce shit and we had 10 years to unlock MVC2, CVS2, Hyper, etc. Fighting games have always been a new one every year sort of thing so I have no idea why anyone would be completely caught off by this.

• Beastfeast

Also, for the longest time, these updated games were played in arcades where you didn’t have to purchase a new game or download something.

The death of arcades is going to end up being expensive in the long run.

• The Lone Dragon

Or it’s going to end up cheaper, because playing an arcade game at 50 cents a pop (if you’re lucky) will quickly add up.

I know I’ve personally play hundreds and hundreds (thousands probably) of matches by now…thank goodness that wasn’t in arcades.

• Paper_Tank

No you didn’t have to purchase a 15 dollar update. No, instead you spent 50 cents per game. I can play 200 games of street fighter in a week easy. You tell me what’s more expensive.

• PINKHAT

are you arguing for or against it?
60 for SFIV + 40 for Super + 15 for AE = 115 dollars.
40 for super + 15 for AE = 55 dollars.
200 games at 50 cents a pop a week = 100 dollars.
2 x 100 = 200, two weeks of you playing.

even if you bought SFIV when it first came out, the cost is fixed at 115 or even lower. with the arcade the cost is very variable, and would actually mean that by 230 matches, 50 cents a pop, you’ve payed for both OG IV, super and AE just by the matches alone. plus the more you play on the console the more the inital cost per game goes down. the first game costs 115 dollars since you first bought it, the second costs 57,5 dollars and so on. the 500th game will cost 0,23 dollars, and the 1000th game will cost 0,115 dollars. that means that buying the console game will present it self to be a variable cost in the end, with decreasing costs.

the arcade meanwhile has a fixed cost at 0,5 dollars and by the 100th game you will have used 50 dollars, which is only five dollars less than super + ae (not counting discounts). which in turn means that by the 500 game you will have used 250 dollars.

if you don’t factor in the arcade experience and you being able to have good win streaks at the arcade, the arcade model isn’t very preferable to most consumers. it costs more in the long run due to the fixed cost of the arcade operators.

which in turn makes it so that console is cheaper in the long run. Arcade = fixed cost that doesn’t change with usage, console = variable cost that changes with usage.

• PINKHAT

my bad, i said the arcade cost was variable at the start which is not correct.

plus i love arcades and use them whenever i have a chance, but i rarely have any time nor chance to do so.

• Eben01

Go-go-gadget Over-reaction. I wouldn’t really say this is a ‘green light’ for Turbo AE – I’d say that Sven is just telling the truth we all knew – if AE does well, a suit somewhere will want to make more money out of it. Nothing more to see here, gentlebobs.

• Prophestus

Shoutouts to reading

• cjguigni

Lol yeah. Not many people show that they didn’t just whine after reading the title.

• mr. tibbs

In their defense, kineda did set the tone for that. He was really stretching to generate some front page comments with this, I think.

And the personal note to Capcom requesting a Yun nerf is something he should probably post in the forum, not in a front page story.

• The Ace of Knaves

Fuck you Capcom if you make one more iteration of IV, just DLC characters and let it fucking go already.

• Astrofunkula

Lol…..Run out of words I see.

• The Ace of Knaves

What?

• Nick T.

lol because SF4 is such a good game. Good thing I didn’t buy AE fuck this. Either way with SFxTK coming out, who gives a shit about SF4? That’s even if SF x TK is good.

• Mr.BottledChi

actually plenty of people give a shit about sf4 lol speak for yourself, capcom is cashing in on AE because people still play the shit out of it

• Super Justin

wow! you’re not an angry person.

• Jubei Kibagami

For a community, SRK sure has a lot of people who don’t seem to want to see more fighting games. Whats the problem with a new update if its for a game you already like? It’s like “I ALREADY BOUGHT BALLAD OF GAY TONY AND LOST IN THE DAMNED!!! WHY YOU MILKING ME ROCKSTAR?!?!?”

pathetic…

• Opinionhaver

What no one is mentioning is that there are CLEARLY two more character slots and so we can expect those to be filled at the very least.

• Karas13

glad I didn’t buy AE.
Glad I didn’t buy MvC3
glad I won’t be buying SFxT..

3SO is the only fighter I will purchase from Capcom until they stop this stupid shit and start making more content packed initial releases.

• Jubei Kibagami

I’m right with you there buddy. I FUCKING KNEW Capcom wasn’t done with SSF2T so I waited and waited and then BAM SSF2T HD Remix. I told people Capcom wasn’t done but hey didn’t listen..

Hahaha @ all the suckers that wasted their money!

• Paper_Tank

Oh no~, 50 dollars a year towards Street Fighter! How will ever be able to feed myself!?

• GirugaMarc

That’s not the damn point. Capcom is making Street Fighter the Call of Duty of fighting games, and if you’re wondering whether or not that’s a good thing, it isn’t. SSF4 was acceptable. It played just like SF4, but had a lot of new characters and it’s pretty much the most balanced Street Fighter of the IV series. Arcade Edition added two dull characters, a bootleg Akuma, and Oni. Not to mention the metagame revolves around one character right now. Anything more than AE is goign to be bullshit.

Glad I didn’t buy AE. Like whoever said before me, my last purchase from Capcom fighting games will be 3SO. MAYBE SFvT…if they add Karin

• Jubei Kibagami

Nah man don’t be a fool! What happens when they release SFxT: Bison’s Rage in 2013 or/and SFxT: Devil’s Revival?!? Then you’ll be Capcoms bitch. Just be smart and patient and wait like 5 years or till like 2015 when your’e SURE the last one has come out. Then you buy it.

That’s how winnings done

• TerraZero

I’m sorry, but Capcom has been making multiple versions of there fighting games forever now. There were like 6 SFII (not counting HDR). There were 3 Alphas and EXs (4 for both if you count EX Plus Alpha).Three versions of SFIII (New Generations and Second Impact came out in the SAME YEAR, and this isn’t counting OE). There are 3 SFIV, and they MAY make a fourth.

I’m not saying it’s a good thing to have multiple versions (although for the record I have never had a problem with it. It’s just how the SF has always been, and people like it that way). But don’t make it seem like Capcom just up and out of the blue started this with SFIV. All of the series had multiple incarnations, so if you didn’t have a problem with it then, you shouldn’t have a problem with it now.

• Kream

just curious… are you a BB fan? Isn’t Jubei one of the non-playable characters from the story?

• Astrofunkula

Wasted money you can pick up some loose change on your mom’s basement buddy.

• whodatninja

add cammy back to ssf4ae 2nd home edition plz.

• SVN4

i think its time for them to get more ambitious then, and work with more system experiments — while not recreating anything from scratch (in a brand-new series, for example).
They could name it Hyper Street Fighter IV and, retaining basically the SF4 most basic elements, put to experiment (now, in a serious manner, compared to the the previous Hyper games) those custom options. Grooves, alternate characters (ST/Alpha like: without “waste of slots”), and other stuff.
Since they are a joke at rebalancing, and now everybody knows it without doubts, i think that would be an actually “justified” version.
For example, if they release a boring updated version, they would only nerf the twins, do minimal tweaking to little details in some moves, etc… And, they would add characters, and everybody should be able to tell, by now, that they will come unbalanced in a way (either for the high or for the low).

• AriesWarlock

Just fix the twins and Honda. Don’t abandon SFIV please.

• DeathandGrim

They need create an edition to bridge the last two parts of the series (3 and 4, chronologically 4 then 3) And have a big SFA3 size showdown between both games . I really REALLY wanna see how Alex vs Abel and Elena vs Dhalsim play out. Or just say screw 4 and head straight to 5 taking place after all the games

• Wil

Vanilla Sagat, plz.

• ifridflame

No way…. I rather a overpowered rushdown char than a OP turtle spammer ¬¬

• Majinhurricane

ea does this with all the sport franchises whats the big deal?

plus this game is broken. fuck you capcom.

• KeNpunch12

Honestly…. I’m tired of people complaining about YUN! Jesus, I have had to play characters i liked that weren’t that good for two years!!! Now finally my favorite character comes out and everyone is crying about. I had to deal with bullshit charge characters forever… i mean c’mon people it’s time to change it up. I’m sorry your characters got nerfed or kicked in the nuts. Just deal with it and adapt… i mean really… i have had to do it three times. I’m finally happy with this game. Just let it be. Just caue you have to work a lil harder to win now doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world…

• Deikan

Honestly I don’t care if AE is the final one, I just want Capcom to redo the balancing (I hated the Rufus nerfs and the twins are so OP) and add more characters and stages. Other than that, I’m fine with everything else.

• darth_nevermore

the same bitches moaning about too many street fighter games are the same bitches who bought the street fighter games.

• Nick T.

lol @ bullshit charge characters. You must be new haha. It’s not about Yun/Yang OP status it’s just that SF4 is flat out boring, not thought out and just plain sucks.

I mean I totally get that capcom is a company and companies have to make money etc we’ve all heard it before, but at least try when you make the games don’t just throw a bunch of BS together and call it SF4(or mvc3). It just seems like capcom is just making these games to cater to the mainstream shitty players(and money) with little or NO thought about tournament play and balance.

• rainstrife

I’m satisfied with the results of AE, there’s just something missing. This release doesn’t feel official enough as Super was. With 4 new characters, numerous balance changes, and making it’s debut as DLC first, then on disc later. A lot of time and effort was put into AE, but not as much as Vanilla and Super. Hopefully, the next installment will have more time and effort, and maybe the final installment of SFIV.

• Dan CiTi

All of that garbage is…garbage. It doesn’t matter as long as it is well done for what they are offering, and all the things AE does it does well.

• defghui

insert “bear grylls drink my own piss” image

• Genistar

If they make another SSFIV they should just add 2 more characters to fill space. Not sucky characters. (Characters the majority of the fighting community wants.) A few new stages. Then put back the tournament mode from Vanilla as a bonus.

• Nitro263

This. I’d prefer Karin and Elena, rebalance, more stages, and the championship ranking would be nice.

• KeNpunch12

I’m not going to complain or argue with any of you people. enough said. I just don’t understand. Honestly… like 7 years ago we didn’t get patch’s or updates. WE GOT THE GAME AND LEARNED HOW TO PLAY IT AND DEALT WITH IT. NOW if there is remotely one thing to strong or just over powered a lil. Everyone freaks out and cry’s about it. I mean… the game has only hit console for 3 days now… Not ever enough time to ever figure out what beats the twins. I think the twins have a hard time against some characters. Sagat, zangeif are two right off the top of my head without thinking. So before everyone complains and cry’s about something they can’t beat within the first few days. Learn the game first. you can’t learn it all in a handful of days. I bet some of you haven’t even played some of the older games like 3s… In my opinion Yun is MUCH worse in that. one mistake against him and your DEAD… if your that bored with it just stop playing. no need for whiny people who can’t try and learn the game. So this is all i have to say.. dont’ care what you gotta say back

• Jourdal

sooooo much truth in this statement

• LeeRockU

^^This^^

• thejohnsonrock

man as one who’s banged his head against the wall trying to speak out against MO’FUGGIN WHINING, i can only say it’s like trying to plant a tree in a forest fire–you can’t teach scrubby dudes to not be scrubby. SCRUBBY is synonymous with SALTY. it’s an attitude problem that endures whether someone’s just started in fighting games or they’ve been doing tournaments most of their adult lives. just because you want to win at games doesn’t make you a warrior, just like screwing girls doesn’t make you a real man. you have to want to be on. a warrior is going to figure out how to win by example or how to win his way. a scrub’ll just whine and curse on SRK, whine and curse on neogaf, whine on PSN/XBL instead of figuring out the game and his game plan

i’ve since given up on trying to convince people to stop freaking out and start learning on SRK. not that i’m trying to be scrubby by giving up–it’s just that i’d rather prove my point by actually fighting, practicing and contributing decent comments. Scrubby flames never die out, so i have to try harder not to let it get to me.

• DaRk-XyStEr

^THIS!!!!

Seriously, I’m sick of these damn 09ers QQing about EVERYTHING and acting like a game is supposed to be perfectly balanced. The twins ARE beatable. We get the console version for 3 days and people are already busting out with the mortons… ….all over them NOT stepping their game up.

These scrubs get babied with patches galore. I don’t mind game breaking glitches patched, like the Zero Glitch in MvC3, but nerfing stuff without games being out for a good month or too is pushing it imo.

• TerraZero

I’m an 09er, but I agree with everything that you guys are saying. There’s nothing I can add that you guys haven’t already summed up, brilliantly.

I know it’s a minority, but not all of us new players are like that. For example, I was mad when Sentinel was patched in MvC3, and I don’t play Sentinel.

I don’t know why I felt the need to say this stuff. But yeah.

• boogityboy

Kids today..

In my day we had to walk 10 miles uphill in the snow to the arcade in bare feet because we used our socks to carry the 20 pounds of quarters we’d spend on the games we played there. (and to fend off the bears we encountered along the way)

Seriously though, as an older gamer I just sit back and laugh these days at all the little whiny interweb “fighting game fans” as they call themselves. But this is what happens when you market consoles and competetive games like these to college frat boys and spoiled teenagers with xbox live accounts I suppose.

• Suppage

Super Street Fighter 4: Super Arcade Edition

Two new characters!
Goutetsu
Charlie

• AkitaZero

Yes, Capcom please bring Charlie.. I understand SFIV takes place before Alpha.. But if they’re going to bring SF3 AND Alpha chars, at least bring Charlie, Rolento, and Karin.. I’ll be fine..

• thejohnsonrock

yes yes please on the Charlie/Nash front

• Stanmanpan

This

• Diernes

all that’s needed is a couple of characters to fill the void of the select screen and restoring some of super’s balance and it’s time to put the lid on this iteration.

• MrMazz

You mean a business ment to make money says they may further iterate on a product if it makes money NO WAY SHOCKING

this is business and life people stop complaining people still buy COD every year I sure do

• marcusg

I don’t mind more characters. I wunt my Elena, NOW!!!!!!!! Alex, do we really want Alex random stomp mindfuck crossups in this game.

• Jay Vasquez 77

anything with more characters, stages, and ultras gets a vote from me.

• the7k

Super Street Fighter IV Turbo! Two “new” characters: Juli and Juni! Maybe we’ll throw Sean and Violent Ken in there too! Get hype!

• LeeRockU

PPL are only whining about Yun bc they see how beastly Diago is with him. Yang is by far not as strong Yun but has a more tactical edge. All I want from this is a full character select screen, more stages, and actual rival fights for the new characters.

• Jourdal

Personally, i prefer Kazunoko

• Nazeres

Nah, they WILL come out with a new SFIV. Because SFIV is great and has a good lasting fun to it. I think Capcom is hiding something from Seth. Notice the weird feeling of “man if they added two more characters on the select screen, it would look better” Many people want Karin and Rolento, hell….it may be the other dolls from Bison’s army. Jill and Jun was it?
Super Street Fighter IV Turbo…I can feel it

• SLICK RICK

hopefully this is true. game is god-awful.

• clue2025

Man the bitching about balance is astounding. This game is some shit, balanced or not, but the argument of inbalanced game = bad game is retarded. Deal with it or stop playing it. Thank god 3s is getting a current gen console release.

• Shoryu Reppa

Good shit alienating the arcade owners again.

• Iie-Kyo

Make up your fucking mines Capcom.

But yeah, fix dis shit.

• TerraZero

LOL at “mines.”

• GuyWithNoHat

I threw up a little.

• GuyWithNoHat

oh and remember how fuckin “broken” rufus was back in the day `?

• darth_nevermore

‘back in the day?’
street fighter 2 was ‘back in the day’
street fighter 4 is now.

• SNAAAAKE

of course we need a TURBO version

• clue2025

After 3sOE comes out then they’ll rebalance it. Subliminal 3s advertising will be done and you can all go back to playing lame as shit, holding down/back, and mashing dp/ultra like before without it being some little chinese fucker with a hat tearing you a new asshole.

• Klique

All AE needed was:
- Buffs to the lower tier characters from Super.
- NO changes to anyone else.
- 4 to 6 new characters: Alpha: Karin,Rolento,Sodom; 3S: Yun,Yang,Q
- Also the game should not be “balanced” so that the newer characters get their lime light. Fuck just make them just as good as all the other characters, and make it up to the player to decide who’s better.
- I swear Oni and E.Ryu just do NOT belong in this game. If you look at everyone else in the game NOBODY else has this fire looking aura coming from them. WHY are they here? Even Bison and Seth don’t look this out of place. For boss characters sure…but to play hell no. These characters are just for the general public to awe over and little kids/adults to live out their DBZ fantasies or evil/dark personas because it’s “cool”.

• Jourdal

“Fuck just make them just as good as all the other characters” this is just not possible. And all this bitching isn’t gonna make Oni nor Eryu disappear from the select screen.

• Astrofunkula

Re balance would be great with a couple of more characters.

• SF4iA

@44 – ae comes out and all of a sudden capcom cares nothing of tourney play and balance? give me a break. chars with strong turtle tactics or abuseable stuff get nerfed and now the game is ass?reguardless of how good the twins are, scrubs can’t use them.so GOOD players will beat them.

• xStingy

Reading at the comments and laughing at the retards that would be happy to pay for the same game a forth time.

I’d love to work at Capcom. I would push to rape you fools for more money even harder. Shit, I would have said “Nah, let’s make AE disc only. Yes, they will whine, but it will still sell 1mill+ because our fanbase is fucking stupid, Lulz”.

• jellytooth

Then they would tell you to shutup and get back to cleaning the bathroom.

• TerraZero

The only people that will buying the AE disc are the people who didn’t buy Super….so what are you talking about?

• Sirrus

make ryu his Vanilla frames and make his cr.HK special cancelable

• shinrob

Where’s Sheng Long?

• nickdekline

DLC characters would be okay, stop nerfing errybody, what is this, an MMO?

• Dan CiTi

Man, AE is perfectly fine, let us move on to SFxTK, which should have plenty of new non-SF4 characters, SF4 characters, and Tekken characters. As well as a completely new game mechanics and such.

Please stop bitching.

• Sadistic Masochist

sf4 series is ass.

• Makchaka

i WILL pay if the next DLC includes female characters !
ENOUGH with this sausage fest (yun, yang, oni, e.ryu)

i need more WOMEN and please include hot alternate outfits too
(rainbow mika, elena, karin)

and if there HAS to be a dude bring the manliest one their is URIEN
beating your opponent with only wearing underwear is PIMP

• akumous

As it is now there are two empty spaces making the character screen imbalance, and that alone is a valid indication that they maybe two more characters to be announce and possible balance changes.

As for Yun and the twins…I am trying my hardest to get my head around Yun but still get my ass whooped from shoto players and experienced players alike. in other words, if Yun was an overpowering character that means my win ratio would have been higher than my loss ratio. He’s not overpowered, you guys just need to learn the match up and play with him as well to learn his flaws and strengths.

• Kaijima

This is such non-news.

OF COURSE they could change their mind later and put some of Ono’s team back on content for SSFIV. They are technically free to do anything including all jump off the roof of Capcom Japan.

It doesn’t mean they have a single intention or a plan of making more SFIV content. In point of fact, if the demand was actually there in the future… then why shouldn’t they consider? That’s what you do when there is demand. You fill the demand.

Just because some people live to hate SFIV and wish it never existed doesn’t change that.

• TerraZero

^^This.

• Ellipsen

Give Guile his nuts back, or at least one of them.

• two2tone

If Capcom charges for another patch… it shows just how much they dont give a rat’s ass about SF fans… we’ll see what Cashcom does… Im so happy I didnt DL or buy this half ass AE junk

• Sleepy Zero

No more. Let this game die with AE please.

• Azrael

To people saying we didn’t complain back in the day – oh yes we did. We bitched about everything, this is by no means new. People seem to forget that the 5 different iterations of SF2 were partly thanks to people complaining that the bosses weren’t playable (thus CE), and that the game was too slow (thus ST).

I remember the bitching was especially loud for CvS2. People hated Sagat/Blanka/Cammy, the priority that fierces had in the game, the damage off Bison’s Paint the Fence/Sakura’s ShoSho, etc. And then roll cancels of course. It was bad for CvS2 because at the same time, Sammy was making arcade updates to GGXX (red/blue #Reload Slash) and people figured Capcom could do the same. Then time passed and we figured out nothing would be done. The people who didn’t like the game or only moderately liked it trailed off, leaving only the hardcore fans who simply just dealt with it. So, people complaining and asking for fixes is by no means nothing new.

Even in Japan, people are very unhappy with Yun/Yang/Fei. There’s even talk of tournament banning Yun. I doubt that idea will go very far, but the consensus is that they just make the game less fun.

If Capcom never makes a patch for AE though, the simple question is – why play it? If its agreed upon that Super had the better balance and was overall the better game, just play Super instead. There’s no reason why America has to play AE at all, and there is precedent for playing the older version of a game (Alpha 3 vs Upper). Japan is playing AE, but this is an area where I feel if the west set the standard, Japan would follow. They were getting on board with Super, playing online and coming to more overseas tournaments. Then AE came out and let them fall back to their arcade standard. America has no arcade standard. We can choose to just play Super instead.

• rush down

Azrael always keeps it fucking real. Always has, and can’t stop now.

• jellytooth

Yea its sets a dangerous precedent that, even though most people prefer Super, AE is now the tournament standard just because Capcom decided to make the game. Basically it means that no matter how much Capcom fucks up, the tournament scene will support their latest products instead of their good products.

• arstal

I just said it, but you said it a lot better then I did.

• Shinkada

Very well said! And well done for knowing your history.

I think there’s this really bad sort of extreme-ends approach a lot of people take; so many online players complain about things that aren’t even close to overpowered (I once heard someone say all grapplers are overpowered in SSF4, facepalm.jpg), that the better players sometimes think they can’t complain about anything. I started in the GG community so DAMN do I know that phenomenon well, how can those guys not complain about Eddie, seriously.

People need to draw the line for themselves. Y’know, the best American players in the world are pretty vocal about when they think someone is overpowered. The best Japanese players probably are too, when they’re not busy being uber-polite because they’re on foreign soil. Not complaining means the devs have no idea what’s going on, and is WAY more dangerous than complaining too much. So EVERYONE WHINE.

Also wait you’re not /the/ Azrael are you? GaiSmash Azrael? :u

• Guccibear_100

Id love to see a few favorites come back into the fray. R. Mika and Remy would be cool.

As for whining about the twins, only people complaining are either getting beat by the twins, or not learning how to play the twins. Time to get in the lab kids.

• badroc

i agree…so far the twins arn’t as big of a threat than i anticipated. but then again i probably havn’t ran into any yun or yangs that are played like they’re meant to be. either way they definitely aren’t unbeatable.

• Pertho

They should let this series die already. Its subpar, boring and is the home of some of the gimmickiest characters in the entire series. The last thing we need is more of it.

• Kimicario

Good lord, at least Marvel has the decency to give us only 3 broken people at any given time. Sheesh, first PDP, now this?

• Golf Rat

They won’t do it. What would they even call it? It would be silly….just nerf the twins.

• doozer667

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Champion Edition.

just give me my updates for 3DS version and maybe port it to Vita…

• Fuze

Oh my goodness, the whining here is amazing, has everyone forgotten that we were WARNED ABOUT THIS A LOOONG TIME AGO. That Ono didn’t even want to release AE because they KNEW it was unbalanced.

Super Street Fighter 4: Yun Edition.

• Louiscipher

Hello! My name is Bias, and I love this article.

• Solder

I’m only interested in DLC called R. Mika and SKULL-O-MANIA (whoever owns the property would sell it cheap)

• Wicho3mil
• millselonius

This game is still fun, but would have been a lot more fun if there hadn’t even been balance changes. New stages and music plus the 4 new characters would have been great. And yes, I’ve beaten the twins.

• Shadow VII

You dont like, You dont buy… simple as that

• slammasledge

Why do a lot of people seriously care about tiers? I play with who I like and find fun and strategies.

Yun’s always been a strong character. However, I find Yang more fun to use and combo with, especially in 3rdS.

Necro would be awesome to have a rival in Dhalsim.

• Engravings

FUCK ANOTHER IV RELEASE.

AE is perfectly fine.
Force these scrubs to learn their matchups.

• And One

Capcom please stop nerfing solid characters and bringing in new overpowered ones and then needing to release a new version of the game to clean it all up. It makes Capcom look like their trying to take our money…Heeeeeeey…wait a minute…

• 1iquid5nake

Why would you want them to patch Yun? The entire point of AE getting a console release is so we can practice the EXACT SAME GAME as the Japanese. If the console version is different, then the main point of having it from a competitive standpoint is gone.

• Zenme

New content is always welcome in my book, it doesn’t matter if they call it “Street Fighter 5″ or “Super Street Fighter 4: Ultra Awesome Edition”
BTW: I don’t know if Yun is indeed overpowered, but if he is they better get off their asses and fix him, because balance is the most important thing in a competitive game.

• TerraZero

I disagree. I don’t think balance is the most important thing in a competitive game. Nobody will play a balanced fighting game if the fighting sucks. But people WILL play an unbalanced game if the fighting’s good (Any SF after the original, MvC2, etc. etc.).

I’ll take an unbalanced game with solid game mechanics and a variety of playstyles or a perfect balanced game that lacks those two things. Of course this is just my opinion.

I think, in the end, we can agree that good fighting games strike a balance between those 2 factors. As variety of playstyles increases, inherently some playstyles will become more effective than others, thus offsetting that balance. It’s all about finding some middle ground between the two, and then letting the players discover the rest.

• TerraZero

*edit OVER a perfectly balanced game

• strizzmatik

Hence why SF1 is played competitively still oh wait

• TerraZero

^_^

• igotapwner

More DLC!!!!

• Mr. X

Unless they’re making REAL changes to the game in terms of the system mechanics and more important things, they can keep it.

• chairman of course

If we buy every 4 months a new version of sf, they release every 4 months a new one. God bless the money!^^

• takinflight

WEVE ALL BEEN BUYING IT FOR THE LAST @# YEARS NO MATTER WHAT THE FUCK THEY CALL IT ….screw it ….its really WORLD WARRIOR 15 !!!! fuck the dumbshit

• And One

I’m with TerraZero on this one! Unbalanced games= GOOD! Balanced games= NOT SO GOOD! Heeeeeey…wait a minute…

• TerraZero

I didn’t say that at all. I said that the most important thing in a fighter is not balance, but a solid fighting engine.

I didn’t say, “if a game is unbalanced, then it’s good.” I said if the fighting is good, I’ll play it even if it’s unbalanced. If the fighting isn’t good, I won’t play it, even if it’s “balanced.”

I hope I cleared up any confusion that may have arose from my already straightforward explanation.

• arstal

A large part of having a solid fighting engine is not having overpowered charactrers.

• TerraZero

Explain that to 3rd Strike. Or CvS2. Or Marvel. Or Vanilla SF4. Or AE. To name a few Street Fighter games.

All of these games have characters the are referred to as “overpowered,” yet tons of people still played them, competitively, because the fighting is good.

• zherow

Well, I mean, if you had a game with characters that could do a 7 hit combo that did half the health of whomever you were fighting AND had amazing health properties that was not very hard to learn, would you not feel good about beating people with said characters? The need for instant gratification can be a mother…

• clue2025

The only games with real OP characters that are allowed in competitive are KOF games

• ohayo1234

Why is everyone constantly complaining about Yun? Do you all use really bad characters? Learn the match up pleaseeee

• fujichan327

yuns not that bad just need to reduce the meter he builds off palm and take away his frame advantage off dash punch

• refuse2lose

There’s nothing wrong with an unbalanced game, someone has to be top, however introducing the twins, buffing makoto / fei & taking a large dump on half the cast doesn’t make any sense. If AE was exactly like it is now with no character nerfs it would be much better, i think nerfs hurt the overall game, personally i’d rather play a game where every character has some broken shit.

• tempbast

You heard Seth. If you want the SF4 series to end then don’t support AE.

• arstal

I’d be for another version of SF4, if they improved the balance.

I don’t see why we should support the Alpha 2 Gold of the SF4 series.

• kerano1

I don’t want the series to end but I am disappointed with AE. all updates should at least be AIMING towards being as balanced as possible.

• And One

I’m with TerraZero on this one! Fun fighting game=I’ll play it! Crappy fighting game= I won’t play it! I like this “new” way of thinking! Wait a minute…

• Super Justin

I’m honestly tiered of your constant bickering SRK. I don”t think I’m ever going to read the comments anymore.

• Itachimaster666

This kinda seem obvious cant wait For Super Street Fighter Arcade Turbo Edition @.@

• Ectoplasm on Toast

Maybe the purposeful unbalancing was to make everyone eager for the next iteration’s changes, like a calculated Vanilla Sagat. Food for thought. :B

Everyone thinks Ono is a big troll, but part of it is Capcom itself. A week ago, Arcade Edition was the end. Before that, Super was the end. Before that, Vanilla was the send-off to the series. Before that, Capcom had no intention of making another numeric entry to the Street Fighter series ever again. Those are all sourced statements by Capcom. I don’t know whether it’s all part of Capcom’s plan, or they just say these things while genuinely having no intention of going forward before they know how successful the product is going to be and are pleasantly surprised. If people keep buying IV, there’s going to be more. It would be wise to make it dedicated DLC. A disc release worked for Super because it provided a good deal to both those who already owned the game and those who didn’t, a dual DLC and disc strategy will probably work for AE because it also provides a good deal to both those who already own the game and those who don’t (especially PC), but yet another disc on the shelves after that will just confuse and frustrate people.

• ghandis spatula

Brilliant marketing strategy capcom, make yun gdlk then release a new version where yun isn’t gdlk.

• JayAlanCarter

next update will have EVIL YUN

• xYourMasterx

The only people who think console ssf4 is better than AE are charge character players. It’s funny seeing honda/guile/boxer actually have to work now. I don’t care what you say about AE, it’s way more fun than console ssf4, and that’s all that matters to me.

Oh, and back in the day when people whined about cvs2/3s, those people weren’t taken seriously, unlike now. So yeah, back in the day, we didn’t whine.

• JayMasquerade

I Just have one complaint….lets not use the word super or turbo or a combination of the two Lol

• SVN4

I think it would only be remotely justifiable if they did, like i said in the previous comment up above, with more ambitious intentions concerning the game system; where it wouldnt change essentially, but could be sligthly altered in some ways. The minor system changes from HF to ST back then, and from 2I to 3S must be familiar to many: that is what i mean.

Except by CE, there was never an update version loyal to the previous version… So would a little lack of “continuity” in the game system be the end of the world? (for the usual whiners yes, but forget those)

So they could buff the Focus system in some way, add alternate Supers, maybe add the rolling from A2, etc. A review at the scaling formula would be nice too — in the sense of loosening it a little (3S’s formula is the best for this game imo)
They have to try interesting changes anyways, not just a rebalancing work and character additions.

• Akumashadow

Super Duper Mega Ultra Alpha Beta Gamma Street Fighter Ex IV Arcade Ultimate Twins Edition this fall….

New Costumes, Alex, Karin, Elena, Eagle, Remy, Hugo, Charlie, Skullomania, Kairi, Cyber-Akuma as DLC characters, 3rd Ultra Combo for all characters, tweaks on character movelists….

• Deddjay

I’m not really too hype at all for another SF4, HOWEVER, if Capcom were to bring in certain characters ( Sean, Q, or Karin for instance) I would be elated to give them more of my money.

There are some cool characters from alpha and third strike waiting to be seen in 4, as well as new fighters . The balance could be done trough patchs once the people try the game as it was done in MVC3 an MK.

• King Sky

This is it for me, and I am so damn serious this time, AE is where I get off the Street Fighter IV train, period. I love Street Fighter, which I think is an fact now considering this will be the THIRD time I have bought this game, but this shit a fourth time would be fanatical/ zealotist, and as the song goes “I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that”.

What Capcom needs to do is make balance changes to the SSFIV:AE as it is now, and not release IV again, or the series will need an IV, because it will be on life support. There are probably a ton of people who will not make the jump to AE, and I’m sure they know that, but I don’t think they realize how possibly releasing it a 4th will hurt SF (and fighting game scene abroad) more than help, which is a damn shame.

• DJTeiiBear

how about acres all this. They should hav just put all the 3rd strike characters minus 12. Q was better.

• xRELLIKx

WHY?: AEs current balance is Yun heavy for marketing of 3SOE.

• geehhdogg

I like the idea of an all-woman DLC one person posted earlier. Rainbow Mika, Elena, and Karim. And, if possible, make another power character like Oni, but as a woman. Give her the personality of Juri?, the speed of Volcano Rossi, and the fighting ability of Garuda. And for good measure, make her all tattooed up like Kat Von D. I’m just saying!

But of course, things change all the time at Capcom, so if Arcade Edition does very well, I’m sure there will be some guy in a suit somewhere saying “you need to do this again!” and we’ll be back here talking again. But that’s a-okay with me.”
