Kaworu Interviews UltraDavid on NeoEmpire.com

Kaworu from NeoEmpire.com took some time to interview UltraDavid about his time spent in the UK, his commentary, and his history as a player. Here is a sample to get you started;

I’ve heard you say recently that Marvel vs Capcom 3 is your current favorite game to both commentate and play at the moment, is this still the case and what is it about MvC3 that you enjoy the most?

Actually my favorite game to play is Super Street Fighter II Turbo. In my opinion it has the best, most varied, fastest, and most consequential action in any fighter, and I’ll match it up as a strategy game against any RTS or board game you want. I’ve often said that it’s my favorite game of all time, and I’m not just talking the video variety. Ohhhhh how I wish HDR had just been a slight slight balance tweak on ST, because ST does have some problems, but overall I don’t think any other fighting game even comes close.

    Good insight and it answered my question as to why I’ve not seen him play in ages, enjoyed reading it a lot.

    I think I disagree with his views on the Justin thing, because the yellow card from EVO didn’t have anything to do with a shift to viewer needs; it had to do with the EVO seeding points on the line, and the EVO staff being uncomfortable that seeding for their event was being influenced by player collusion. If that tournament was not tied to EVO, obviously whatever Justin and Noel did would not have been an issue for the EVO admins, because they would have not been associated with those actions. For the most part, players can still do what they want, but my impression from what one of the Ponder brothers (sorry, I forget which, and I’m a twin too =/) said on Wakeup SRK, there is a desire among the EVO admins for that tournament to have a legitimacy that may not be present, or even welcome, at a local tournament. The long term implications are, from what I can see, that major tournaments affiliated with the EVO series are going to have to maintain the same commitment to legitimacy that the EVO admins have for EVO proper, or players are going to receive a penalty (albeit, in Justin’s case, a very minor one). So, in my opinion, UltraDavid is way off base in stating that Justin was penalized for not entertaining the viewers; he was penalized for jeopardizing the legitimacy of EVO by colluding with another player at an EVO series event which awarded EVO seeding points. Sorry to beat that dead horse again, but that was eating at me =).

    Wow I heard ultradavid say that something had come up and that’s why he has not been competing but I just figured he meant he got busy being a lawyer and all that really sucks.

    I don’t think anyone cares if a couple friends decide to share the winnings with each other. The problem is when they start obviously throwing matches and asking tournament organizers to change the brackets in top 8. That’s what undermines the integrity of a tournament and makes the scene look like a joke to outsiders.

    is he standing in front of Dwight Schrewt ?

    David’s condition is very unfortunate. Thanks to him for everything he does for the community.

    I feel awful for David. Is there any sort of surgery for that? The thought of any part of your body, especially your hands, not doing what you want is pretty horrifying. Best of luck, Dave.
