Nagoya Street Battle 25 Finals Replay

Ov3rheadGreg captured and uploaded the finals from last night’s NSB25 team tournament. The game was Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. The team of Kindevo, Eita, and coop faced off against Momochi (playing as Yun, now), banbaban, and KOK. Greg is also going to try and upload matches from the top 8 and more later today.

  • xPlasma

    Yun :(

    • rukawa_kaede

      more like Yawn

  • Vorkosigan

So instead of Tiger Retard, we’ve got Divekick Retard.

Good going scrubs. All that complaining really made a better game.

    • The Lone Dragon

Fighting against AE Yun is way more interesting than fighting Vanilla Sagat.

Vanilla Sagat could literally take off 60% of your life randomly. He had 1100 health. He had the best keep away fireball zoning in the game.

Yun, at least, has to work his way in, and stay in…and do so with low health.

In other words, Yun has to be DELIBERATE.

      Sagat = RANDOM top tier.
      Yun = DELIBERATE top tier.

      • MadTitan

I don’t really agree… sagat was overpowered but had glaring weaknesses you could exploit so long as you didn’t get hit while trying. Yun is so damn safe.. what are you going to exploit? He can get in safe from anywhere.. and at that point what can you do but block mixups until you get lucky and counterhit or something.. or.. he owns you.

        • The Lone Dragon

Yun’s entire body is his weakness. 900 health, no true projectile, un-FADC’able reversal.

To beat Yun, you have to exploit these three facts.

          Let’s not forget:

          SAFE =/= FREE

If a move leaves him at 0 frames or a slight disadvantage, it may be unpunishable…but it’s definitely not free. Especially for a low stamina character.

Plus, people have to get used to dealing with his dive kicks. They have a huge hurt box, that we all simply need to practice exploiting. Also, depending on how high they connect on your block, they can leave him at disadvantage (or can even be punished).

Also, his command grab has HUGE recovery, so read him and backdash during his block strings for a huge windfall.

He obviously a very good character.

          • The Lone Dragon

He’s obviously a very good character, but why don’t we actually TRY to deal with him before throwing up our hands in defeat.

      • Nitro263

Problem is he can do so against most of the cast EASILY and SAFELY. He’s stupid easy to dominate with, and stupid safe to play with.

AE Yun is just as brainless, if not moreso than Vanilla Sagat.

      • lemonhonda

work his way in? are you kidding me?

        • The Lone Dragon

          No.

  • ST3K3LLY

AE has ruined an awesome game

    • vancitypimp

Yun is only played good by Japan. In North America only Marn and a few others know how to use Yun. East Coast cant use Yun because they play a turtle style. Even in West Coast where they have a more rushdown style there’s only a few Yuns.
To win with Yun you actually have to move forward and attack rather than Spam fireballs with Sagat in Vanilla or Turtle all day with honda and just land a couple hits to win. AE much better balanced game, the only ones complaining about AE is players that like to turtle since they cant do combos or know how to rushdown.

      • Jourdal

Hsien Changs yun looks pretty good

      • Zonk

lol at generalizing coasts with specific playstyles.

      • lemonhonda

pretty sure you don’t live next to an arcade

  • DRE

Every AE article on this site should just have a picture of yun attached to it and nobody else.

  • Kream

AA Akuma ultra 1-NOPE EX KICK SUCKA!

Still looking forward to trying the 4 new characters in a few days :)

  • samuraix025

having 3 S tiers is a bit crap hopefully come tuesday people start learning how to beat them so they don’t feel so OP

  • Surenio

Wonder if you guys noticed that yun lost…

    • DRE

Lol, yes but to another Yun! Stay free.

      • DRE

And to the other top tier in the game Fei long.

  • MechZZ

How was that Yun not dizzy after eating 3 rekka combos….

  • mr. tibbs

Man, I wish there wasn’t a Yunwagon. I really wanted to play him, but I’m already sick of seeing him in arcades. Can’t imagine what online will be like. Oh well, Oni time!

    • Merkilo

What a scrub mentality, not playing the character you like because he’s popular. I guess we have street fighter hipsters now.

  • Eileithyia

this is one of the few time yun won NSB, i’m not sure why people complaining. Most of the time it was Makoto, NSB 24 was Eita’s team with no yun. Eita beat Momochi’s Cody in the final.

  • mrshmearo

“I think if you play multiple characters it makes you a less respectable player. He’s great, no doubt… but his multiple character usage just annoys me to death. Seems like he can’t make up his mind. I can understand playing like 2 characters, but Akuma, Ken, Makoto, Cody, Yun… c’mon now, Momochi.” Read this on one of the youtube videos, someone get the fanboys some damn tissues this is ridiculous

  • Astrofunkula

Can’t wait to download AE and try all this shenanigans.

  • Good Game Player

*stands around at 2/3 screen doing nothing for half the match* *is an sf4 “rushdown” character*

  • sprflyspdrguy

    Jesus. Soooooo boring.

  • WINBACK

Man when Yun did that dive kick for a safe whiff I was like “oh shnap” but when Yun did ANOTHER dive kick and it hit I was like “HOLY FUCKIN SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT” this game is hype. Can’t wait to try out Guile’s improvements.

  • Jourdal

Ryans thoughts on Yun….he pretty much says Yun is really dumb

    http://www.lowlandlions.com/content/Features/Ryan_in_Japan_Week_2-3675.html

  • Ultrabison

Lol dlc not even here yet though there is already a wave of people bitching about it wow so yun is good deal with it like you have had to deal with every other bullshit character. And anyway its fei ya wonna worry about.

  • Loque

I think I would be using the new characters if I played SF as much as these guys.

I wouldn’t try and second guess the balance either, give the game 6 months at least – looking forward to it myself.

Also, those matches were kinda boring, but that’s probably because I don’t know who is playing when and any of their history, or what the prize is, etc etc etc…

    /comment

    • Good Game Player

do you actually care about, you know, the actual gameplay at all?

      • Loque

For sure, I guess that didnt grip me at all…

  • MrSoada

No one even mentions how broken Fei is! He is worse than yun by quite a bit. If he has meter, you are going to get forced into the corner and stay there until he doesn’t have any more meter.

  • BitterSweet

Doesn’t seem brain dead Kung Lao, but then again that character has at least three times the moves, near full screen dive kick, does a stupid amount of chip damage.

  • Noodlz

lol, yeah but MK gets balance patches. I doubt SF will ever have that. I hope AE’s balance is as good as super’s. I loved super because the balance brings out a great character variety in players. crossing my fingers that its not filled with yuns and feis online.

    • Nitro263

“I hope AE’s balance is as good as super’s.”

It’s not. Not even close. Get ready for the Yun and Fei army.

  • Wasted

People need to start playing Yang instead if they’e so butthurt about Yun. Teach the skateboarders a lesson.

  • clc_sketch

I love yun dont get me wrong i played him in 3rd strike and he will be my main in ae as well. i just wish capcom didnt make him so damn good lol it really is going to be super yun fighter 4 ae lol

  • Gaudion

Yun is a great character conceptually, but Capcom can’t ever seem to get him into a good place. He was utterly obnoxious at the top level in 3S, where all the best Yun players would basically run away the entire match and only engage seriously once they had built up the meter for Genei Jin.

AE Yun is just straight-up overpowered. Much like vanilla Sagat, it’s one of those things you look at and just wonder at how anyone on the dev team thought that it was a good idea.

  • Dexter Chacko

So. Freaking. Boring. I’m glad I dipped out on SSFIV before this Yunpacalypse struck… zzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

  • SuicidalGrandpa

    Y’all just mad Ryu/Sagat/Rufus aren’t godlike.

  • justiceg

Love all the kids in here crying about an OP character. Great, either:
    a) level up your game
    b) play top tier
    c) go do something more productive than practicing at a children’s video game all day

    BOO YAH

    • Immaculate

children’s video game? how many children play this game?

  • booda

So much sodium is bad for your health.

I’m looking forward to the challenge of finding strategies to beat Yun with my main characters. If you don’t think like that, then yeah, it’s hella boring. I mean, why play Street Fighter at all if you think that way?

    • Gaudion

Because effort can only take you so far. Eventually player skill will reach a cap, and at that point the player with the more dominant character will win.

Look at SSF4. Look at 3S. Look at Tekken 6. Go back and look at ANY fighting game. For the most extreme case, look at MvC2. Game had a roster of 52 characters, and by the time its run ended you saw maybe 8 in any given tournament.

Balance is important because it expands the active roster, giving the game more depth and, on a practical level, making the game more interesting.

      • Wasted

Blah blah blah blah. If I have more skill than you, it is not my character that will be winning. If you reach your skill cap with Yun, and I am still better than you with my Yang, Guy or Makoto, I am still more likely to win. This scenario of both players reaching some arbitrary skill cap is completely hypothetical.

People think balance expands the active roster but it really doesn’t. Players will always gravitate to the stronger characters no matter how balanced the roster is. If one character is say, 9 out of 10 and another is 9.5, people will still play the 9.5 character more, it’s just human nature.

Just alone in these finals there were 4 characters out of 6 players, including Yun.

  • Eileithyia

    or
    d) go complain on every fighting game forum.
    e) cry more and get body in tournament.
    f) quit the game

  • iDely

im pretty effin bored of yun already… i was really hyped.. but now…. meh… theres nothing, i didn’t see ! blargh… Yang & Oni is the deal now

  • ShinOwen

Mmm…… What do I think? I think ppl need to wait till the game comes out. What I notice is to many of you whineing and bitching, frankly I don’t care or fear yun or his bro. Why cause I’m going to find a way to kill them.

  • Katt

Can’t wait to make yuns look free with Dan. Lol

  • ShinOwen

Somewhere along the line you guys stop being yourselfs, you let others ppl stick a finger in your face and say you suck, and tell you your no good. And when things got hard you started looking for things to blame. Let me tell you something, the fighting world is not all sunshine and rainbows. Its a mean, cheap, runaway place, and it will beat you down to your knees and keep you there. But only if you let it.

The guys you use may not hit as hard or have super armor or fast recover time, but its not about that. It’s about how hard you can get hit, take those hits and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.

Now if you truely love and know your guy then go out there and get your wins, but know that you got to be willing to take all the bs that comes along with it. And stop pointing finger’s because of him or her, or anybody else. Coward’s do that. And that ain’t me, and I know that’s not you, cause your better than that, and so am I.

I’m alwas going to love fighting games no matter what. Its in my blood. But untill you start beliveing in yourself’s you won’t get better or wins. And don’t forget to train hard.

  • Resolute

Yep. Just what I wanted to see when Yun was announced. Him in every set of finals, just like 3S.

    Great.

  • DeaDshoTs

It’s unfortunate that Fei has always been my main since Vanilla, and now he’s considered top-tier and I’ll look like a bandwagon player. :/

    • EvilRyuX

Sucks doesn’t it? We’re on the exact same boat. I’ve mained him since Vanilla as well. I picked him because he was different from everyone else, who were using the same characters at the time, and now it’s going to look like I picked him because he’s now considered good from top players. Fei gives us such a hard time sometimes.

    • strizzmatik

Guile fans from before Super say what up.

    • mc-fine

nobody cares who you use. If you are any good and perform well at a major tournament you will get your respect.

  • Son of a Gun

I wanted Yun in the game since Vanila so I’m gonna play him anyway, too bad if everyone’ll be crying I’m a big meany. It might be an interesting experience ’cause I’m not someone that selects his characters based on tier lists.

But we’ll see how it goes when everyone is actually playing AE. I doubt everyone’ll exchange their Shoto characters for Yun and perhaps won’t be as ‘horrible’ as it may sound in this thread.

  • The 4th Letter

Dah well… who wants to live forever? DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!!!!

Dive Dive Block string, Dive Dive throw attempt, dive dive dive dive dive.. damnit *eats combo* =o(

  • Darklightjg1

I liked the part where Yun did too many good moves. 2 more days…

  • UnknownEnemyZero

I like how you guys act like you’ve never faced Rufus ever before or something.
