The Link – New Shaft for Sanwa JLF Allows Easy Storage

Phreakmods posted a preview of their upcoming product, “The Link”, and it looks intensely useful.

“The Link is a new JLF shaft design that is purposed to allow easy storage for all kinds of players. The casual players looking to save a little space, and for traveling tournament players who need every inch when cramming into a full car.

The new design is a two piece steel construction. It’s currently in the prototype stage but what you see here is a good view of the final product. When in place, the Link is identical in height, allowing for you to drop it right into your current arcade stick that has a Sanwa JLF and feel no difference. The diameter of the center collar is perfect size so that you can keep your current dust washer, however the shaft cover will have to go!”

Basically, this lets you take the stick and top off of at any time without opening the cabinet, making the entire stick lay much flatter for storage when traveling. You can check out Phreakmods’ booth at UFGT7 this weekend in Chicago, IL, and check the thread for more information.

    Would be sick to have a bat top and a ball top Link to swap out on the fly, because for some reason, i like a bat top for MvC3 and MK9, but prefer my ball top for SSFIV.d

    I had an arcade stick from 4gamers that had the same idea but it was a crap stick! I’ve been trying to find something like this for ages on a sanwa product.

    yup, major problem with the fightstick has always been stroing/transporting its odd shape with the joystick. Problem solved! I gotta get my hands on one of these.

      You didn’t read correctly — this allows you to remove the shaft & switch the top on-the-fly.
      Which would include bat-top.

    Currently on a train with my fighstick stowed above me. Would have been nice to have this today. Always worried that my stick is gonna snap or deform when I put it in my bag.

    Smart stuff. I always worry when I put my stick in a backpack because I know if it gets set down wrong, the joystick could get smashed into it or messed up.

    I’d like to hear a review on it first. I feel that if tolerance stacks are off then it could end up being a sloppier shaft.

    just the other day I had this issue with carrying my arcade stick in my Back Pack, I usually just hold it, but now I want to carry it but my Bat Tip makes its stick out like a sore thumb, just in time I guess lol

    I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer here but the extra bulge on the shaft would make playing with it harder, and perhaps more painful when it pinches the skin on a finger… Otherwise it’s an incredible idea.

      It’s a good critique, and one of the first things the initial prototype was busted on actually.

      The current design has a soft angled edge on the top of it to eliminate any harshness on your fingers if you play wineglass style or similar. It’s hard to envision but it’s actually very very smooth and easy on you.

      The bulge isn’t noticeable at all really because it’s literally no wider than the original shaft cover that comes with all T.E.’s, which nobody really had issues with it seems.

    My concern is if it’ll be prone to coming lose during play. Kinda like the ball-top on a low-end stick.

    I was going to buy an aluminum briefcase to put my stick in, but the joystick protruding was a problem. I think this is the solution. I’m in.
