Arc System Works Owns the Rights to Guilty Gear

Few probably realize what happened to the Guilty Gear license when Sega and Sammy merged. Siliconera explains; “After Sega and Sammy merged, Guilty Gear became an issue. Arc System Works developed the game, but Sammy Corporation owned the IP. During the shuffle, Guilty Gear transferred to the newly formed Sega Sammy Holdings.”

      They had the rights to the individual characters used in GG2 anyways.

    Sega sure enjoyed with-holding, but with this change, hopefully someone can also convince Sega to work on Shenmue III.

    Ooooooh! So THAT’S what happened. I remember hearing about the merge a few years back and when E3 came around that year, I made sure Sega was one of my stops to find out about the next GG. I was hoping to hear news about Slash. When I didn’t see it on the floor, I asked around and I was disappointed that absolutely no one knew what the hell I was talking about.

    I am kind of puzzled about how we managed to receive Isuka, AC and AC+ afterwards, while Slash remained as import only, but I’m not complaining now. Hopefully, now that ASW owning the TM for GG is known to the public, we will be hearing some news about the next GG. Maybe some teasers or character reveals? I would love to see Jam in the next game!

    that is why aksys when published GGAC and GGAC+ they did their bussines with ASW and not sega

      nah i really doubt they are gonna waste all the sprite work for the chars, there is a good chance that they are gonna reuse it in a gg x bb crossover or something

    agree with leaving the games separate , i think they should leave it separate, i like both games for what they are and personally i wouldn’t want blazblue to corrupt my guilty gear experience. if they DO combine it i think they should have 2 separate games running on different systems. not too keen on the idea of a new system really. the games theme would also be annoying because guilty gear is hardcore with a rock style theme, while blazblue is a lot more mystic and cartoony
