The latest episode of G4′s Fighting Words takes place at the PDP National Mortal Kombat tournament. The host ask Justin Wong, Perfect Legend, and Floe questions about the event, the games, and themselves. Justin and Floe even break into a little East Coast / West Coast smack talk near the end.

The sticks are terrible but would you really want to talk poorly about the guys who are giving you thousands of dollars in prize money and might be able to make deals with them in the future?

  Even if they had said the sticks were terrible G4 would have edited that part out anyways, as that looks bad on them as well considering they’re sponsoring the event.

Sigh the sticks aren’t bad, they’re just not what new skool players are used to. If anyone played MK1/2/3, in the arcade they accurately recreate the experience.

For the record, I am not associated with PDP in any way, and do not own one. But I have played on one. My biggest complaint about them is that it’s so hard to switch back and forth from a Madcatz TE. But that’s my problem and not the sticks.

  The problem with the PDP stick isn’t with the MK button layout or the fact that it uses stiff and imprecise American-style parts. The problem is that it uses crappy American-style parts.
  
  Folks mod their PDP sticks and replace the Happ parts with Industrias Lorenzo for a good reason.

    That’s your opinion. I have purchased and built a stick myself using Happ parts because That’s what was in the arcades where I grew up.
    
    Just because it’s not what someone prefers doesn’t make them “horrible”.

      The quality of Happ parts started dropping after they stopped buying their supply from IL in Europe and instead started to manufacture their own parts in China a few years ago, using E-switches instead of the Cherry micro-switches that they used in the past, so these new Happ parts are not the same as what the arcades you grew up with used.
      
      Also, the Happ parts in the PDP MK stick aren’t even of the same quality as the Happ parts that you can buy online:

Most people saying that PDP sticks are bad have probably never seen an SF AE Stick. That was a horrible stick, it was only worth it cause it was easy to mod, but this one is actually made of good parts. Seems to me that what you guys don’t like are american style sticks,

I can’t help but to think of Justin as a sell out, maybe because I grew up in the east coast. I live in Jacksonville but I always will consider myself from Philly, I’ll never be a southerner even if my ears here outnumber my years there.
